Maenofferen
The Stoneleaf Maenofferen slate is quarried
in the home of natural slate, at Blaenau Ffestiniog.
The Stoneleaf Maenofferen is a blue grey natural roof slate with a textured surface, often with characteristic transverse bedding lines. Historically the slates were mined underground in an extensive system of tunnels and chambers, however following extensive development works at the quarry they are now quarried by the open cast method.
Sizes produced range from 10"x6" up to 24"x14", however production is very much determined by the size of block that is available, and this does vary. Generally production is geared towards 20"x 10" and smaller, however larger sizes can be produced in very limited numbers. Random diminishing slates can also be made.
